OBITUARY – Sir Michael Anthony Carricarte, Knight Officer and Sir András Czapáry-Martincsevics, Grand Officer of KMFAP, passed away

Dear Dames and Knights,

Every time one of us, Knights and Dames of Saint John, also said of Malta, passes away, we feel as though we have lost a part of ourselves, and the announcement of the sad news about the deceased never pays a real tribute and an homage to their lives, to their merits and their real value. If the loss of one of our members is painful, the loss of 2 of our most distinguished knights, leaves us with a profound sense of grief, and we deeply regret having to announce the passing of the following Knights:

Colonel Sir Michael Anthony Carricarte (1942 – 2026)

It was a great honour for us to knight in 2024 Colonel Sir Michael Anthony Carricarte, a decorated War Hero of the U.S. Green Berets and the Marine Corps, who was also very dedicated to our Sovereign Order and an extremely active knight and philanthropist who supported and assisted all those in need in his community. Col. Sir Michael embodied – as very few others – the noble principles of Knighthood. He built his fortune in the international healthcare and insurance sector. He founded and served as CEO of Amedex and USA Medical Services, providing health insurance throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. Sir Michael also led companies in real estate, private lending and investment. He was the founding donor of the Jackson Memorial International Program, a member of the Golden Angels, and supported South Florida schools including Miami Dade College, Epiphany School, Our Lady of Lourdes Academy and Kendall Christian School.

Col. Sir Michael also paid tuition for students whose families lacked the resources, however he kept discretion about these donations and also made substantial donations to several charitable organizations not only in Florida/USA, but also in Latin America.

The Grand Master in his name and on behalf of all Knights and Dames of our State of Knights and of our Sovereign Order presents his most sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family in grief and children of Col. Sir Michael Carricarte for their loss, which is also a loss for us all.

Sir Dr. András Czapáry-Martincsevics (1949 – 2026)

It is with a heavy heart and deep regret that we inform you that Sir Dr. András Czapáry-Martincsevics, Grand Officer of KMFAP, who was inaugurated on 27 June 2004 in the Ceremonial Hall of the Metropolitan Municipality in Budapest, passed away unexpectedly on 27 June 2026, at the age of 77.

He dedicated his life to the timeless ideals of solidarity, integrity and service to humanity – quietly and humbly, as a good knight of our Sovereign Order and a member of our State.

As Lieutenant General of our Magisterial Guard, an exemplary citizen, an active member of his community, and a successful businessman, Sir András, with his unwavering commitment to the sick and needy, and his dedication to our Sovereign Order and State, left a lasting impression on all of us, his brothers and sisters in Saint John, and a deep respect and admiration.

HMEH Prince José Cosmelli, Head of State and Grand Master, and HG Sir György Popper, Prime Minister and Deputy Grand Master – on behalf of all KMFAP Knights and Dames – express their sincere and heartfelt condolences to Sir András’ beloved wife, Lady Júlia, and his beloved daughter, Damsel Klára, on the loss of which we all share.

Requiescat in Pace!
